After launching it either takes a few seconds to give me this error and crash or it does it immediately. I have tried following the instructions in the troubleshooting guide in the page and updating drivers. I do know that there is another post with the same problem but the only fix I saw on that page was launching in windowed mode which does not work for me.

@Usernoim I see that you have p2-rtx.asi in your root folder? That is supposed to be p2-rtx.dll. Did you rename that (you mentioned the troubleshooting guide)?

Please extract the proper dll from the latest release and try again

I did rename that because the troubleshooting guide said to do it when installing the other launcher. I'm redownloading everything now

is there any fix for this?

Did you install everything correctly now? Same issue as before?
Please make sure to not run the game in fullscreen mode.

Either temporarily disable remix by renaming the d3d9.dll in bin, then disable fullscreen via the in-game settings -> rename back to d3d9.dll

OR

Create a link to the p2-rtx-launcher and add -windowed behind the target like so:
"G:\ .... \Steam\steamapps\common\Portal 2\p2-rtx-launcher.exe" -windowed

even in windowed mode it still happens

Can you post the new logs when running in windowed mode? One log suggested that this might was the issue

Mhh looks like it fails to create required shaders .. perhaps it has no permissions to write stuff into your portal 2 path.

  • Could you try to run the launcher as admin?
  • If that does not work, please check the Run as Admin box for bin/.trex/NvRemixBridge.exe under the compatibility tab (right click - settings)
  • If that still does not work and if you can, install the game to a path that is not inside program files

first one makes it sometimes take longer to crash.
second one makes it crash instantly as well as the third one.
here are the logs

Did you install the game to another path outside program files or what exactly did you do to get it to work?

the game crashes without an error after playing for a little while now

Please be a bit more specific. Does it crash randomly on the map or when it loads? Can you replicate it? Does it only happen on a specific map? And please re-post the logs and the dmp file when you crash

I used task manager to close a clipping software I use after it kept popping up while playing and that fixed the crashing on launch and also fixed portal 1 with rtx. The game stutters every few seconds and the crash happens randomly while playing in the map and happens on every map. I just replicated it on a different map. Here are the logs.

bridge32.log
bridge64.log
remix-dxvk.log
NvRemixBridge.exe_20241228_140440.dmp

idk why but the dmp file says that it was last modified an hour ago and that is the most recent one. Maybe it didnt make one this time?

Does the same happen on portal 1 rtx (the crashing and stuttering)?
