Kudos to @prittandrani for discovering this issue.

Problems

  • When users tweet using Indonesian words "banjir", the reply is in English. However, the GIF is in Bahasa Indonesia.

  • Similarly, when users mention PetaBencana and tweet "banjir", the reply is also in English. However, the card UI is in Bahasa Indonesia.

How to replicate this issue

Simply tweet "banjir" and/or mention PetaBencana

Proposed Solution

I thought this must be related to Twitter default language setting. However, changing the default language setting on Twitter doesn't help. The issue remains. So another solution is required.

Expected outcome

Any "banjir" tweets should have Indonesian replies/responds.

Hi, any update/progress regarding this issue? Last evening, we checked again on Twitter replies because there were come reports coming in, this issue is still going. People tweeting "banjir" but they still have reply in English (though the GIF is in Indonesian).

Thank you.

On Nov 6th, the issue is still happening:

  1. someone tweeted 'banjir' and the reply message is still in EN, but the gif is already in BI.
    language detection 4

  2. someone tweeted 'flood' and the reply message and gif is in BI. When the person retweeted the reply message (contains the word #banjir) they got the card reply in EN, but the card language is set to BI...
    language detection 6

  3. I tried to call the card link with 'banjir' and got a reply in EN
    language detection 7

  4. I tried to call the card link with '#banjir' and got a reply in BI
    language detection 8

Hi @prittandrani thanks for the updates.

Second attempt at fixing (I forgot that Twitter uses 'in' to mean Indonesian so we weren't detecting the translation properly).

Please try again when you get a chance.
