Types of disabilities, desciptions, tools and resources

Vision impairments

Visual impairment (vision impairment, vision disability) is defined as a decreased ability to see to a degree that causes problems not fixable by usual means, such as glasses or medication. Visual impairment can be due to disease, trauma, or congenital or degenerative conditions.

Mobility Impairments

A mobility impairment is a disability that affects movement ranging from gross motor skills, such as walking, to fine motor movement, involving manipulation of objects by hand.

Auditory Impairments

a person with a hearing impairment as one whose hearing is affected to an extent that renders the understanding of speech through the ear alone, with or without a hearing aid, difficult or impossible.

Neurological Impairments

Neurological disorders are medically defined as disorders that affect the brain as well as the nerves found throughout the human body and the spinal cord.

Cognitive impairments

Cognitive impairment is when a person has trouble remembering, learning new things, concentrating, or making decisions that affect their everyday life.

Medical Impairment

Impairment is defined as any marked loss or deviation in physiological function, psychological function, or anatomical structure of the body. An impairment may be temporary or permanent; progressive or static; intermittent or continuous; and may vary in severity or fluctuate over time.

Psychological Impairments

The term psychological disorder is sometimes used to refer to what is more frequently known as mental disorders or psychiatric disorders. Mental disorders are patterns of behavioral or psychological symptoms that impact multiple areas of life. These disorders create distress for the person experiencing these symptoms.
