I am a computational linguist and work on free and open source natural language processing tools. The sponsorship will be helpful for me to dedicate more of my time to low-resourced and under-resourced minority and marginalised languages. I build language resources such as dictionaries and annotated texts and the basic NLP products on top of that, such as morphological analysers, spell-checkers, machine translators and so forth.

One of my interests in this program is to see if scientific open source work could ever be as crowd-fundable as other areas like youtubing, i.e. in my wildest dreams I can see that getting decent amount of money monthly allows full-time working on interesting and necessary minority language NLP, science and stuff included but no university bureaucracy or publishing for the sake of publishing. For this reason my main goals are not tied to specific per person tiers but rather accumulated total monthly money, i.e. if I’d get 20 % of my current net salary from all crowd-funding sources after taxes I could re-negotiate my contract to 80 % and have one full day a week on just the projects you are sponsoring!
