Publishing from the desktop app

The built in encoder has been live for almost 2 months for live testing on purely the encoder side. This update now adds the ability to upload your video directly the desktop app.

Note: this is far from stable and we need significant user driven testing to build up reports on user experience and other bugs. As we build new features, fix bugs, and improve the infrastructure it will bring the app closer to prime time where anyone regardless of skill level/bug tolerance can use the app.

🔗Custom URL schema🔗

This new feature makes it possible to open up the desktop app directly from a web page or blog post. This means a user can read a blog post containing a link to the video, then click the link to easily be transferred over to the desktop app for viewing the video.

Login with your Hive account.

In this update we now have full support for logging in via your hive account with more account types to be supported down the road. For example logging via Ethereum and Hive simultaneously. In this example a user can post on Hive, be rewarded for upvotes, as well as receive tips on Ethereum.

Ability to:

• Comment
• Upvote/downvote
• Follow/unfollow a user
• Publish videos from the desktop app.

Other

• Default thumbnail if thumbnail is missing.
• Numerous small fixes for ipfs only videos.

Notes

While this is a production release, we still need extensive testing and experimentation to root out bugs and improve user experience.

Next up

• Precaching functionality to better assist NATed/firewalled users.
• Secondary peer discovery mechanism outside of IPFS DHT. Likely going to implement a system similar to bittorrent's HTTP tracker.
