User Verification

Mickey Dearman edited this page May 29, 2024 · 1 revision

An unfortunate issue with Parsec's user account system is that usernames are not unique and are very easy to spoof, resulting in some troll behaviour. It's very easy for users to change their username on the fly and pose as other users, which can cause a whole lot of drama.

Hosts and mods can now verify user IDs to ensure people are who they say they are. When a user joins, if the host/mod trusts the ID of the user, they can use the chat command !verify, giving the user ID as a parameter. eg: !verify 1693946

[ChatBot] MickeyUK was verified!

Then if a fake MickeyUK tries to join, Smash Soda will automatically check the user's ID and automatically kick them if it doesn't match.

[ChatBot] Kicked a fake guest: MickeyUK

If the host/mod accidentally adds a fake guest, they can unverify that user by using the !verify command on that ID again.

[ChatBot] MickeyUK has unverified: JoeBloggs

Also some, "ahem", comedians like to pose as me, MickeyUK, so I've hard coded Smash Soda to kick fake Mickeys!
