If you fork this project and follow the instructions are they are mentioned, there is no mention about the requeried permission for the GITHUB_TOKEN (default only allow read access)

That's spot on. I believe that Step 4 would be the most appropriate for mentioning the need to change workflow permissions.

For those, who came here for a solution: Go to repository Settings > Actions > General > Workflow permissions and check Read and write permissions.
