• WebGPU renderer
  • Only available on Chromium browsers for Desktop/Android. If you see a black screen that means your browser/WebView doesn't support it (ex: Mulch WebView)
  • This render is similar to WebGL2 but (in theory) it's better, faster and has lower power consumption if it's implemented correctly. I don't know much about WebGPU so don't expect that.
  • If you have a weak device it will likely perform worse than WebGL2.

there is no item with WebGPU selection

I know that on my old PC it wouldn't work, I was just curious to check, but it didn't work, this item isn't even in the menu.

I don't even use WebGL2, because it loads the processor twice as much as the default mode.

Experiencing black screen when streaming with WebGPU on Hisense U7G running Android TV OS with the Better XCloud APK

I am using the Beta userscript which allows me to choose WebGPU in seemingly all webviews ive tried, however no webviews has fixed the black screen issue.

Sound still works, and black screen is resolved when switching back to Default or WebGL renderer.

This mode does work on my Galaxy S22 using the same settings on Android Webview, so I suppose the issue is isolated to Android TV or at least the Hisense U7G running Android TV

Using WebGPU also gave me just a black screen on Nvidia Shield TV. And after updating the script again today, WebGPU is not available anymore in the settings menu. Which is good, as it’s obviously not compatible with the device.

But as I can confirm that the Nvidia Shield TV is able to also handle “1080p (HQ)” with the default renderer without performance issues, I wanted to suggest to update the recommended settings for the device.

Decided to disable this feature in public build because it's not as good as I expected.

If you still want to use it, enable EnableWebGPURenderer flag in https://github.com/redphx/better-xcloud/blob/typescript/scripts/custom-flags.user.js

I got this to kindof work on my MacBook Pro. Using latest Vivaldi (chromium) browser and enabling the flag script allowed me to select and run webgpu. It worked fine Friday but Saturday when I went to do remote play I had a black screen. So this feature is a hit and miss.
