Usability and GUI presentation improvements

Introduction

For the purposes of presentation in the documentation, there are a number of improvements which can be made to the GUI and work-flow to make the GUI more self-explanatory for the users, and easier to present in the documentation.

These changes will be described in sub-issues, referenced from this head issue.

Proposed GUI changes in the left panel

• Make the Datasources component less prominent because it is only used by advanced users  #436
