Time for an Update #18

This is great. Thanks for the effort of putting all this together. Making changes to the map itself is fairly tricky now. I'm going to have to find a way to extend it out past 2010. I'll have to think of a way to fit this all in. Thanks again.

Anytime man, i love this website and want to see it be the best it can be! I have a few years of experience as a C# developer, so if i can help in any way I would love to! If i see anything else that may need adjusting i will be sure to inform you! |
A couple more genres that I think are definitely worth adding: Trap Metal has become incredibly popular in recent years. Check out this Reddit Guide to it. https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/8hca3d/guide_to_trap_metal/ Jazz Metal/Jazz Djent/Djazz: Panzerballett, Shining (NOR), Trioscapes, T.R.A.M, Cynic, Mattias IA Eklundh, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Intronaut, Akphaezya, Estradasphere, Trepalium, Virgil Donati, John Zorn projects, etc. |
Eh, i looked at that list and none of those would qualify as "metal". Metal isn't just 'loud and aggressive' |
I Really love this website but it has some issues that need to be fixed and some genres that need to be added.
Issues
Djent needs to come from Progressive metal as Messhugah and Periphery pretty much created the genre, it doesn't really have any roots in Tech Death
Add Steel Panther to Glam Metal as it needs a modern example. Death To All But Metal would be a good example.
Include in the 'Post Metal' description that it is also known as 'Metalgaze', 'Art Metal' or Atmospheric Sludge
Include in "Black Ambient" that it is also known as 'Atmospheric Black Metal"
More examples for Post Metal:
Allagoch - Limbs
Wolves in the Throne Room - Vastness and Sorrow
Pelican - The Creeper
You have regional scenes for death metal such as swedish death metal and south american death metal as genres on the map. Maybe have regional scenes of thrash such as Bay Area, East Coast Thrash, Brazilian Thrash, Teutonic Thrash, etc. or atleast make note of them in Thrash's description. Just a thought.
Groove Metal doesen't really have any origins in Rap Metal. Like none whatsover. Not sure why that's on the map or in the description. Theres a reason its also called Post-Thrash (Which should also be added to the description. Description should also say "At its core, groove metal takes the intensity and sonic qualities of thrash metal and plays them at mid-tempo, with most bands making only occasional forays into fast tempo." Some other examples that would be good to add since there aren't a ton currently would be Lamb of God - Laid to Rest, Pantera - Walk, White Zombie -Thunder Kiss 65 and Machine Head - Locust
I Didn't want to include them below because i didn't know if you wanted to differentiate them, but Goregrind and Pornogrind have also grown out of Deathgrind for the most part, even though they are mostly thematic differences, though there are a couple stylistic differences.
There are also Death and Black subgenres of Industrial Metal if you consider them valid subgenres of their own.
All That Remains has gotten quite big as of late, so they may be a good example for metalcore
