We released 1.2.0 on 2024-10-30, so about 3.5 months ago. I think it's time.

Currently a bunch of things changed in Julia nightly, so it may be a good idea to get this sorted out beforehand. Perhaps we can discuss what else we want to wait for, if anything, during triage.

One natural thing to wait for would be the changelog setup

I think we should at least wait for 1 or 2 alpha versions of julia-1.12, so that we know which of the more drastic changes the julia folks will include in 1.12.0. Then we could try to be as compatible as possible with that

For me, it would be great to have a release by the end of February/beginning of March. Vanilla case for me is to have the release on Feb. 28.

Rational: Am preparing a publication that demonstrates FTheoryTools functionality, and would love to say "works with OSCAR release 1.3.0". We aim to have this preprint on the arxiv by Feb. 28. (cc @apturner @emikelsons )

Comments from the meeting today (2025/02/21):

  • Do the release soon
  • Don't wait for the serialization update script
  • Try the new changelog mechanism with this release
