Frozen install on Macbook Air early 2013

Hello, I'm a Linux newbie, so forgive me for my lack of knowledge.

I am attempting to flash Elementary OS 8 (Circe) on my MacBook Air Early 2013, which is currently loaded with MacOS Big Sur 11.7.10. I am using a USB stick on which Etcher created a flash from an ISO I downloaded from Elementary.io.

The problem is that I am unfamiliar with Linux. I am stuck at the Elementary splash screen and cannot see any option to select a language, keyboard, etc. If I remove the USB stick, I can reboot back into the Mac OS. In addition to my issues, my laptop's graphics card is dead, so I am connected to an external monitor.

Any suggestions as to what I need to do? Thanks.

I would suggest looking for Ubuntu tutorials for your models. Since the base is close to Ubuntu they would likely work
ive heard of this issue where the "splash" boot parameter in grub was an issue...

but all in all macbooks tend to cause issues with anything linux
