Changing keybinds

Just wondering how to apply binds changed in ~/.config/hyprland/hyprland.conf
The bind to reload Sway is Super+Shift+C but changes in the hyprland.conf are not applied.
I assumed hyprctl reload would do it, but I get the error
HYPRLAND_INSTANCE_SIGNATURE was not set! (Is Hyprland running?)
if I run
printenv HYPRLAND_INSTANCE_SIGNATURE
nothing is printed.

Some bindings are taking effect. I read that changes should take effect when saving the hyprland.conf. I close for now
