Adding syslog data using syslog-ng is my preferred method, but you must complete Notebook 1 and Notebook 2 after a fresh install of OpenNMS Horizon before adding syslog. If you don't you will regret it. This does not cover installing syslog-ng just setting is up with OpenNMS on a linux based system.
