We should recommend using either of these for environment management as opposed to conda/miniconda so to only rely on the conda-forge channel and PyPI.

(Note: the HEP community has good experience with pixi for reproducible science, but it also has a start for being used for developer environments: e.g. https://github.com/rgommers/pixi-dev-scipystack )

I'm closing this for now in favour of keeping the documentation up-to-date about what we actually do in fornax-images
