Question on ./configure / make Gambit optimization notices

Given that I saw during make -j4 output notices of this pattern:

*** The option "--foo" was not specified to the                        ***
*** configure script.  The Gambit system will compile correctly but    ***
*** typically the executables will be less optimized than when         ***
*** "--foo" is specified. [...]                                        ***

I killed the ongoing make -j4 and re-ran ./configure but as ./configure --enable-single-host, as a trial. Another subsequent make -j4 run however still outputted the very same notices incl. for enable-single-host. Same with deleting and re-cloning the repo dir (to wipe any potential cached stuff in there, if any).

Anyone know how to bring in those optimizations to one's make -j4 run? Or would this be inadvisable? Because making+installing locally (ie. not for redistribution) I'd want to ensure the fastest-possible binaries for this system.

The gerbil configure script passes the right options, you dont normally have to do anything.

The warnings you see are from gambit's bootstrap configure/build, and you can safely ignore them.
