can data recorder recover after 100% packet loss for a while?

Everything is working as expected for the data recorders and packet loss is ~0%.
Someone logs onto calim01-08 and starts reducing data.
The data recorders on that machine become resource limited and start dropping packets.
Eventually the data recorders fall so far behind on packet capture that they are catching nothing.

I don't know how much of a hassle this is. If the data recorder falls behind in the middle of the night, chances are no one is gonna restart it.
