What this PR does / why we need it:

  • it adds all common labels to metadata labels in the pod spec. The main reasoning is to persist the helm.sh/chart, app.kubernetes.io/version and app.kubernetes.io/name labels to the pod for standardization. Per docs, (https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/overview/working-with-objects/common-labels/#labels) "In order to take full advantage of using these labels, they should be applied on every resource object.".
  • to improve traceability throughout the application. Ex. via Kiali dashboard.

Hi @jhulick. Thanks for your PR.

I'm waiting for a kubernetes-sigs member to verify that this patch is reasonable to test. If it is, they should reply with /ok-to-test on its own line. Until that is done, I will not automatically test new commits in this PR, but the usual testing commands by org members will still work. Regular contributors should join the org to skip this step.

Once the patch is verified, the new status will be reflected by the ok-to-test label.

I understand the commands that are listed here.

Hi @jhulick, Can you fix the CLA failure?

@jhulick thanks for taking the time to open a PR but this would very much be an anti-pattern, the Helm labels go on the resource Helm is managing. If you want to label the pods directly please use the existing podLabels value.
