I'm looking to switch over to kanata from xkb in linux. In the i3 config there is a way to have the active layer report itself in the polybar. Is there a way of having kanata do something similar? |

There's a gnome-shell extension to do that, maybe you can adapt the code for polybar |

The gnome-shell idea might get me closer (maybe). It seems quite important to know what layer is currently active. Are there plans to help users with this, like a system tray widget for the big 3 operating systems? Leaving construction of such reporting to users will probably discourage uptake of a great idea. Maybe it's just an 'early days' type thing. |

I was looking for the same functionality. I'm using Windows with WSL2, and sometimes I get lost when doing stuff. I would like to know beforehand which layer I'm currently working on |

Since this should be able to be implemented using the TCP protocol, I would think that it's best to have a separate executable/process to manage any reporting/tray-type use case. I'm happy to accept any PRs that enable the use case in any language, not just Rust. It could be via code in the repo or be a link in the "community projects" link in the README. I just opened a PR to help document the TCP protocol. |
