macro and tap-hold-press

Hello,

I'm trying to get the following behavior:

• when I press (but maybe not yet tapped) spc I get spc immediately
• when I release and it really was only a tap of spc nothing more happens, spc has already been sent
• when I keep holding and hit another key (a bit as for tap-hold-press), then I want to send a bspc deleting the previous spc and then do that other key interpreted in a layer

in pseudo code:

spc (macro spc (tap-hold-press 200 200 XX (macro bspc (layer-while-held layer))))

or maybe more readable

spc (macro
  spc
  (tap-hold-press 200 200
    XX
    (macro bspc (layer-while-held layer))
  )
)

The above idea is how you do it in kmonad, but kanata does not allow all actions in a macro. I don't know for sure what is the semantics of a macro even, does it trigger all keys in rapid succession? No matter how long you hold the triggering key? Or does it hold the last key of the sequence?

Any ideas are welcome :)

I had tried that at first and then rejected it, because the order of key up-and-downs looked wrong to me in the simulator. But when you suggested it, I tried it again, and it works a bit, but the way it produces releases is still a problem.

when i do spc-held + t it produces

That does indeed make a normal editor print a single quote (after first a space and then backspaced over it), as intended. But it was strange to me that in this construction, spc and bspc stay down for the whole duration.

It's often not a problem, but it's a problem when the layer syms also has things that send spc. Since spc is still down, they dont work. That seems to be fixable when I add release-key spc to multi. But the same doesnt work for bspc, because it's already part of multi and it's meant to be simultaneous.

I think this is as designed and intended, right? Do you think there is a way to turn a physical input of
