references to other efforts to provide project templates/structures

I think we want to refer to efforts by others to create project structures, e.g., ROpenSci, research compendia (e.g., work by Stodden/Temple Lang/Gentleman, work by Jenny Bryan, etc.) and how what we have builds on or departs from that.  

Please weigh in with suggestions of what other efforts we should point to. There are a few (older) references currently at the bottom of the README.

ROpenSci had a good set of resources on reproducibility that I like e.g.:
