Audio Basics:

The sample rate for MP3 streaming can range from 44.1–48 kHz at 96–320 kbps. The preferred bit rates are 128 kbps/44.1 kHz and 96 kbps/44.1 kHz.

Here are some sample rates for MP3:

  • 44,100 Hz: The Red Book standard for audio CDs
  • 44,100 kHz: Sounds better than 22,050 kHz for CD quality recordings
  • 32k, 44100, and 48k: Supported by current MP3 players and decoders

Some say that 44,100 is better for music because most music has a 44,100 sample rate. Changing the sample rate can cause quality loss.

Some say that 192 kbps and above gives the best audio results. 128 kbps is okay for web use and 32 kbps can be used for transcribing tunes.

mp3 Basic Tips: Choose either 22.05kHz or 44.1kHz (44.1kHz is CD quality and recommended) sample rate. Other sample rates may cause playback issues in some players, making the audio sound like the Chipmunks are playing it. Ensure your files have the appropriate file extensions.
