macOS with option-as-meta enabled on UK keyboard means I can't type #

What would be the best way to deal with this problem? I like having option as meta because I can utilise readline inputs such as opt-b|f for forward and backward one word, however if I have option as meta enabled I cannot use # which is useful for comments in shell scripts and titles in markdown.

you can assign some other keybind in your config to output that text character
