👋 I'm finding I'm getting to greatly simplify my setup with Ghostty. Amazing!
I'm this close to not needing tmux anymore - but I'm missing (or not finding) one feature: quickly getting to a pre-determined split size.
In particular,
new_split
doesn't appear to take size parameters for the split that's about to be created. It looks like it (sensibly, as a default) always splits evenly.resize_split
only appears to accept point values, such that getting to some "20% of my current terminal window" isn't as precise as it could be. This also applies more generally, as I could use percentages fornew_split
, as well. The current system that only accepts point values seems like it could have a better "feel" across different window sizes and/or physical monitors of different sizes and resolutions. The absolute point values end up meaning I have to pick values that make sense for my laptop screen, but not for my much larger monitor at my desk (or vice versa).
I currently do things like this in my tmux configuration for working with vertical splits:
For comparison, I use horizontal splits much less, so my binds are much less ergonomic, and feel like Ghostty's current abilities:
My search for similar discussions turned up #2480, which seems to have similar concepts, though I've never used tmux layouts. It appears my needs are a fair bit simpler.
Feel free to close this discussion if you believe that discussion covers my ask well enough and I'll follow along there. Really appreciate the work that's been done on Ghostty thus far and looking forward for what's to come. Thank you!
