What is the proper way to update atom value dependent on props or state?

Hello, friends! Recently, I read react new beta docs and learned that updating state based on props or state is bad idea in "You Might Not Need an Effect" part. In this perspective, using useEffect to update recoil atom value based on props or state is bad idea? What is the proper way Recoil is suggesting now? I asked this question to Jotai author Daishi Kato and he said that the best way is to make props into atom. What is the Recoil's method? Thanks for your reading!
