Setting up asciidoctor as parser for Vale

Hi,
In your docs you say that if you want to process files other than Markdown you need to supply a parser. I want to process asciidoc files. I have asciidoctor installed, but how do i configure that and tell Vale to use asciidoctor as the parser. I could not find any docs on this, could you explain how to do this, or point me to some docs that do?

All you need to do is ensure that asciidoctor is available on your $PATH (and it should be if you used any standard installation method).

Not to be a pest, but i installed asciidoctor, and it is in my path, but vale doesn't start when i try and edit an asciidoc file. Markdown still works ok.

Here is my vale.ini file:

Core settings

StylesPath = styles

The minimum alert level to display (suggestion, warning, or error).

CI builds will only fail on error-level alerts.

MinAlertLevel = suggestion

MinAlertLevel = warning

Define the exceptions to use in all BasedOnStyles.

Vocab = Docs

BasedOnStyles = Vale, write-good, Microsoft, ttd-light, proselint
TokenIgnores = ([.?].*?[/\w+]) # ignore shortcodes

What do you mean by "vale doesn't start"? Are you using it with another application?

If it were having trouble finding asciidoctor, you'd see an error message saying so.

I use vale with Vim via Ale. Markdown works fine with that setup, that was why I was trying to get it work on Asciidoc files.

My guess would be that this is related to ALE in some way then. You can verify by running Vale from the command line by itself on your AsciiDoc files.

I turned out that the styles directory had not been installed and there were no packages. I know now, but at the time, I thought that Vale would install at least the styles directory. Why not install a default styles and .vale.ini file?
