I forgot to mention that earlier. Stars had a white ring if it was a friendly fleet, maybe a red one for unfriendly?

A ring? not a triangle like every other game uses to represent ships?

Triangles are for moving ships in Stars.

I guess the ring represents an orbit?

What if we do a blue ring for our ships, a green ring for allied ships, and a red ring for enemy ships? And either the rings can be concentric or the colors can merge together e.g. a purple ring for our ships and enemy ships but no allied ships?

or do a broken ring like SE2 did? Realistically it probably won't come up often, and a broken ring would be more intuitive IMO.
