<p>Katarzyna Stapor received her MSc degrees in technical and mathematical sciences (1985, 2002), PhD, DSc (habilitation) and Professor degrees in computer science from Silesian Technical University, Gliwice, Poland (1994, 2001 and 2006, respectively). Since 1992 she has been working at the Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Silesian Technical University in Gliwice, Poland. She has been published over 80-ty publications including the books on software engineering methodologies (“CASE for people”, LUPUS, Warszawa, 1995), pattern recognition (“Pattern Classification Methods in Computer Vision”, PWN, Warszawa, 2011) and the handbook “Statistical methods for students of computer science with examples in R” (Silesian Technical University Press, Gliwice, 2008, 2015) with the accompanied exercise-book (“Exercises with solutions for the lecture Statistical Methods”, 2014).</p>
<p>She is using R in her research work as well as in the teaching activity during exercises and projects with students. Prof. Stapor is the co-author of the integrated information management systems and the computer vision system for supporting glaucoma diagnosis in ophthalmology. Her current research focuses on the statistical pattern recognition, especially in the protein bioinformatics.</p>
