PostgreSQL as a session storage

Hello! 👋

I have got the Waha Plus subscription. I want to use PostgreSQL for storing session data. As per the documentation I set WHATSAPP_SESSIONS_POSTGRESQL_URL environment variable. But I don't see any reflection on my database after creating a session. My database is empty (no tables). Do I need to run any migrations? Do I need to do something else?

Hi! It should create new databases

• waha_{engine} with session config and other data WAHA needs
• waha_{engine}_{session} with session-related infromation (authentication, messages, chats, etc)

So if you put WHATSAPP_SESSIONS_POSTGRESQL_URL=postgres://postgres:postgres@localhost:5432/YOURDATABASE?sslmode=disable it makes no changes to YOURDATABASE, but will create new databases

Why databases per engine/session and not sharding using "tenant" by session id/name in a single database?

1. We found it's easy to have separate engine-related database (they all needs to have some data)
2. If you got corrupted, not propely configured session - it has isolated database and will not affect other sessions (in most cases)
3. It's easy to find session storage ocuppied by exact session - so you can find clients that have too many messages and consider creating a new WAHA instances only for them (like a worker)
