Admin option to hide results #83
Comments
Its a wash basically, by showing the results live and in place, it might cause some to vote more strategically, and of course its impossible to talk about that psychology in any meaningful way. The main thing is all voters are seeing it equally, so it affects them the same. If it were allowing some voters to see the results, and others not, then that would be a problem. |
Also sharing the results via another page isn't really different than this, if you allow them to edit their votes. The original way range / Olympic score voting works tho, is that no one is shown results until an end date. |
That's fair for strategic voting, as you say. My use case happened to be for ideas from a brainstorm, where nobody is trying to do that type of thing, and the goal is to just surface the idea that the group is collectively most interested in. But, I get that I'm using it for a use case this wasn't quite designed for. |
Outside of the original concern - which I think is valid btw. I really like the idea of giving the polling admin live control over the poll. Both when to show a question and when to show the answers. I believe that this feature is totally in line with what this software is aiming to do. |
It seems like showing the current results prior to voting influences voters. You mention a lot about why range voting was selected, but I don't see any discussion of the impact of showing voters the current leaders (and losers) prior to voting.
How about giving the admin an option to hide the results, which they can toggle on and off? Admin could turn it off while everyone is voting, and then turn it on at the end to display the results to everyone. Or, just share another screen with the results (in a live presentation, for example).
