Week 7 | Feedback and Progress Update
In week 7, we handed in the assessment 3 concept proposal. We also prepared a presentation to demonstrate our domain and concept, then received some feedback on our concept.
Before the presentation, we divided the tasks to individuals. And create google slides so that everyone could work together and put bullet points on the script to ensure we didn't repeat each's task.
During the presentation, while listening to the other group's demonstration, and we completed critiques relevant to each team. It's interesting to see the majority groups chosen the topic of fake news. However, there was one team that had a very similar domain we were worried that this may affect the grading on some extent.
We got the feedback that we are focusing on too many 'new-to-the-country'. They suggested us to narrowing the initial focus onto key aspects of exploring the new country and breaking cultural barriers.
This going to be a challenge as there will be significant of work to refine the different types of users with different backgrounds, especially the concept proposal is due on this week, it's going to be a big challenge to narrow down the domain range, because making a practical decision and refine an opportunity with potential required us to truly understand the domain issue and user background, it needs a good amount of research. We got the ambitious to make an appropriate project also aim for a good achievement. The team would put the full effort to approach the goal of helping people new to the country integrate into the society.
The concept proposal is due very soon and is going through completion. It's the first group assessment since we formed the group. The team have had experience with the Scrum framework, and while it is very effective, we felt that it may not be the most appropriate tool as we all identify by our own skills, experiences, and strengths, rather than just being a "developer". We discovered that we are all currently studying different majors, with Nemo being a postgraduate student in interaction design, David with a major of software design, Hamish in multimedia, and Momoka in user experience. While we have many courses that are similar, it is a strength that we have had different experiences as well as understand the expectations of the criteria in various fields, i.e. design, writing, programming, and further design thinking. By completing the concept proposal, we had a better understanding of the domain issue, and we are ready to start working on deliverables.
As discussed in our concept proposal, we have a general timeline of what we should have done every week. By following the timeline, we clarified that we have the initial requirements of planning the functions on the paper prototype and start to design the design element.
The design would be achieved by user research and results analysis which will justify and form the design decisions and finalize the main functionality that the application will need for the first iteration. What's more, the team has generated 7 colour patterns, which one of them could be the main colour using in logos and designing Wiki, the colour selection will be based on the preference from user's choice, which will be shown on the result of user testing.
Meanwhile, in the next week and week 11, we will update the design progress and main "deliverables" with a stand-up session. We will also discuss with tutors if we met any issues or unsolved questions.
