Currently, tvd uses gopkg.in/alecthomas/kingpin.v2 v2.2.6 which is the latest version but hasn’t released since 2017. Alternatives to consider:

https://github.com/alecthomas/kong - same author as current lib, similarly lightweight/simple, potentially less flexible/customizable
https://github.com/spf13/cobra - extremely popular/widely used, ‘batteries included’, would require considerable organizational refactoring
