Alt key keybinding not working anymore

For some reason switching the mode with alt+h or alt+l doesnt work anymore.
Im pretty sure its not entirely rofis fault, since the keycode 64 gets registered.

What i have tried to fix the issue:

• research if someone else has/had this issue
• debug the input (rofi registers the alt keycode ?)
• change my keyboard layout
• change my i3 modifier
• downgrade rofi to an early version 1.7.3

All with no result.
