htttps isn't just for bank websites anymore! Is it possible to host the lab website as https like we've done for nengo.ai? I know they're hosted differently, but I'm not sure what the differences are...

Should be doable. I set up a server with Let's Encrypt before, probably could to it again. Though we in the process of moving things from the server to other places and then probably doing a reinstall (? @tbekolay @xchoo), so maybe we wait until that's done?

One thing to remember for the CNRG website though is that it pulls in a lot of resources from external websites (plenty of images, etc.) using HTTP, which defies the entire point of HTTPS [1]. A simple solution would be to download external content in the build script and to store it on the server.
