👆 Automatic Setup of Themes, Icons, and More by Installer
📢 New wallpapers have been created & added for openSUSE Baldur!
In the last few weeks and days a lot has happened with my project "openSUSE Baldur"! ⏳
Some packages have been removed and others added to enable smooth system operation with this Linux distribution. 📦
In addition, the brand new XFCE Initial Setup for openSUSE Baldur will soon be rolled out to make setup even easier for the end user. 💻
But at the moment the XFCE Initial Setup is not quite finished yet, as some translations and important tests still need to be carried out! ⚙️
Furthermore, there is now a minimal installation script in which only the XFCE Desktop is installed and no other users are created during the installation of openSUSE Baldur. And the Flatpak runtime is not configured either! So the administrator can decide for himself... 🛠
And last but not least, to celebrate the day, I created etxra for openSUSE Baldur brand new wallpapers1. 🎉
Here's a little foretaste:
You can find all the wallpapers here: https://github.com/cryinkfly/openSUSE-Baldur/tree/main/wallpapers
So as you can easily see, there is a lot going on with this project!!!
Best regards from Germany 🇩🇪

XFCE Initial Setup: Wi-Fi - Page Completed! 🌐
And again I finished another page*!
The XFCE Initial Setup automatically detects during setup whether there is an active internal connection or not.
If there is no active internal connection, it will automatically check whether a WLAN module is available and if that is the case, then the user can select the appropriate network themselves and connect to it.
*Possible changes can still take place!
The XFCE Initial Setup will be released soon! 🤓
👥 User account creation interface will be published soon - openSUSE Baldur
I have just created the first version for setting up a new user account under openSUSE Baldur! 🧩
However, I still have to translate the UI into the different languages and then incorporate it into the installation routine. 📝
This brings us one step further to a finished openSUSE Baldur version! ❤️
UPDATE!!!!!!!
The interface has been revised and will soon be available under openSUSE Baldur!!!

📦 Added XFCE language switcher ➜ openSUSE Baldur
The time has come! 🎉
I have just added the first version of the XFCE language switcher to openSUSE Baldur, so that the first time the user logs in, the language is automatically set and then Flatpak is set up.
But even afterwards you can access it again at any time via the XFCE start menu under the settings if you want to change the language later.
However, the language switch currently has no influence on the keyboard settings!
To do this you have to go to the XFCE settings and select Keyboard and then set the correct keyboard layout there.
📝 Readme has been updated!
Since the project is constantly expanding and new content has been added, I have updated the readme file in the last few days.
For example, the sections were rearranged and spruced up.
In addition, the sub-project "openSUSE Baldur" was added and much more!
🥳 openSUSE Baldur installation script released!
The openSUSE Baldur installation script has just been released!
After the basic installation of openSUSE MicroOS, the third option is to install the XFCE desktop environment via the command line.
However, the automatic setup of the Flatpak apps is not yet supported because the script still needs to be adapted for user creation!
Flatpak-Runtime will be automaticly configured with the first login of the new user!!!
Install command:
curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cryinkfly/openSUSE-MicroOS/main/files/builds/baldur/stable-branch/bin/install.sh > install-openSUSE-Baldur.sh && chmod +x install-openSUSE-Baldur.sh && ./install-openSUSE-Baldur.sh
📢 Coming soon: openSUSE MicroOS with XFCE and 4K support!
It is almost time ... I've just taken the first step so that openSUSE MicroOS can be used with XFCE soon!
And because of course that's not enough for me, I've created a new repo here on GitHub, where you can already find a theme (Nordic) with full 4k support, which you can use on openSUSE MicroOS and on all other Linux distributions running an XFCE as a desktop environment.
And so, in addition to openSUSE Aeon and openSUSE Kalpa, a third member (desktop variant) will soon join the ranks, which will then be available to the end user. 🚀
Furthermore, there is already a name suggestion on my part:
-
openSUSE Baldur (stands for virtue, beauty and light)
