Hackathon: Archiving Federal Energy Data

Help us archive critical energy datasets on Zenodo! We'll be working to integrate datasets on renewable energy infrastructure, commercial and residential energy use and energy affordability. By adding these datasets to our PUDL archiving repository, we'll be ensuring that snapshots of these datasets are regularly uploaded to Zenodo for everyone to access. Our archived datasets are:

• Free for anyone to use in their research, advocacy and modelling
• Versioned to make analyses and workflows reproducible over time
• Updated each month to capture the latest changes in regularly-updated datasets
• Accessible and stored on CERN-funded servers, preserving an additional access pathway for key federal energy datasets

Pre-requisites:

While we'll be working together to archive datasets and address any roadblocks that come up, we want to make sure we can collaborate effectively. We ask that participants registering:

• Have used Git and Github to create pull requests on Github repositories
• Have written Python code to access data from the internet (e.g., using the requests library)
• Have used a tool such as conda or mamba to install a virtual Python environments
• Have experience running Python code from the terminal
