New Users aren't registering in WildRydes

I am attempting to do the serverless-workshop and despite many many attempts, when I try registering an email (Module 2) it does not work. I do not get any confirmation on the screen, via email, and users do not show up in the user pool. I double checked the user pool id and app id and they're both correct but I don't think I the right invokeURL. I created a simple API (basically just created it) and grabbed the default endpoint url from the settings tab:

I even tried continuing through module 3 into module 4 which invokes a RESTful API but still it doesn't pass the verification test.

All attempts at trouble shooting have left me no where.
I am not sure if I provided all required information for helping me but please let me know.

I have the same issue - users are not being created in the user pool.
