The equalizer integrated into the music player is inferior when compared to any other equalizer I can find, and I think that focusing on the main functionality on the player and using the default equalizer used by the user would serve the app by a lot.

I think the equalizer is the best part of the player, its the only FOSS player I've found that has a 10 band, you don't need to use a third party eq that always runs in the back ground.

As @guzz46 said above, the EQ is the best part of the player, and MonsterMusic EQ is the only effective one I've found; it actually makes listening to music on my tablet better!

That, and its customization options, makes it great!

There are LOTS of other Android music players to use if one does not want EQ.
