In order to resolve the problem with grades for different counties, the following structure was organized:
- An institution must adhere to specific grading system, guiding the way grading is done for its classes, exams and subjects.
- A grading system can only be created via the admin tab.
- A grading system is defined as a collection of the following attributes:
Attribute | Meaning |
---|---|
name | The name of the system, any does |
start_grade | The starting grade (lowest when looking at grades linearly) |
end_grade | The end grade (highest when looking at grades linearly) |
step | The step between grades, usually is 1 but can be custom for specific cases (see danish grading system) |
direction | One of the system directions listed below |
description | Just a helper description, similar to name |
possible_grades | Usually auto-generated before saving the GradingSystem unless it's a non-linear one, in which case you will need to input the values as a comma-separated string |
nonlinear: 3, # e.g. Danish system
positive: 2, # 2..6 -> + (Eastern Europe)
negative: 1, # 5..1 -> - (Central Europe)
unknown: 0
- Institutions clamp on the possible grades (when grading exam/user) depending on the related GradingSystem.
- Grading Grades are a simple manner - you can assign a grade to any student in the name of any teacher. Each grade can have only ONE of two possible values - REASON or SOURCE. 6.1 Reasons Reasons are just a text field that provide a description on why the grade was given to the student. Can contain any text, if needed. 6.2 Sources A source of any grade is an exam. A grade that has a source exam will be dependent on it, meaning that if the source exam is deleted - all grades associated with it will also be deleted. This is done to prevent having grades with hanging (empty) sources and is generally good for the data.
- Multi-step forms A user is greeted with a form where they can choose the source type of a grade - REGULAR or EXAM, corresponding accordingly to grades with "reason" and with "source".
