I joined Parexel from the NHS in England where I held numerous roles in project management and analytics.
R is fairly widespread in the NHS and I am very comfortable in using R.
I now work as a health economic modeller, mainly in excel, but I am keen to promote the use of R in my team and the industry.

I have worked as a programmer in Biostatistics at Novo Nordisk for eight years, the last three in our Biostat HTA department.

Over the last couple of years I have been one of the drivers of developing a tool in R for automating statistical analysis such as those required for AMNOG. We open-sourced our working version earlier this year, but in hindsight it would have been beneficial to start collaborations earlier to ensure a broad scope. I hope the HTA-WG initiative can help build early and targeted collaborations to ensure we develop the best possible tools.

Joshua Soboil

Consultant at Cogentia Healthcare Consulting. First got into R when studying comprehensive HTA modeling, integrating BUGS/JAGS and Stan. Haven't looked back since! It has been great to see the growing interest in R for HTA over the past several years.

Currently, I focus on de novo model builds and the technical aspects of HTA, while also supporting strategy for industry in HTA submissions.

In my spare time, I am a co-chair of the R for HTA in LMICs chapter, a chapter of the main R for HTA consortium.

Hi everyone,

Great to meet so many of you at the kick-off meeting yesterday. Let me fill-in a little bit about me, I'm looking forward to learning more about others in this working group.

About me:
My name is Dominic Muston. I work at Merck & Co., Inc., known as MSD outside North America, where I lead a team in Health Economics & Decision Sciences whose responsibilities include global health economic modeling in oncology. I have worked in pharma in global and local roles, and in CROs/agencies, for 20+ years in HEOR and statistics, and have led or contributed to multiple HTA submissions to various agencies over that time. My email is dominic.muston@merck.com . Views here are my own, not necessarily those of my company.

My hopes for this WG, and what got me involved:
R Consortium has been able to bring together stakeholders including regulators and industry in various pilots, and I hope we may be able to develop something similar for HTA. Many of us in pharma use Excel for health economic modeling reluctantly due to need, despite the risks and limitations of Excel that are well documented and appreciated. R is increasingly taught/used in universities, many resources exist already to train in R, health economists are increasingly familiar with R, more and more clinical/trial analytics are conducted in R. The workgroup provides an opportunity to better learn from all stakeholders (notably HTAs who receive our models) what would be required to evolve towards script-based analysis such as that offered by R, for both clinical and economic HTA analytics. Beginning with understanding, we can then work towards creating the necessary infrastructure and tools, with the support and endorsement of all stakeholders needed to change practice and improve HTA analytics.

Greetings Everyone,

It was a pleasure to meet everyone during the kick-off meeting yesterday. The ideas generated during the session were truly inspiring, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the Working Group.

About Me
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tuhin James Paul, and I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree in India. As I am in the thesis writing year of my course, I am eager to embark on a career in one of the following fields: HEOR, Real World Evidence, Market Access, or Medical Affairs. My professional experience includes working as a content writer for a reputed start-up in the alternative investment space based in the USA and a digital marketing enterprise in India. Additionally, I have interned as a Drug Information Trainee for a healthcare product knowledge startup in India.

Academic Journey
Throughout my academic journey, I have published a review article in a reputable journal (Cite score-3.3) in Bentham Science and two book chapters with respected publishers, namely Springer Nature and IGI Global. Several of my articles and book chapters are currently under review. I have been recognized with awards for delivering the Best Oral Presentation at a National Conference in India and have been invited to serve as a Resource Person for "Impromptu Speaking" by a reputable university in India.

Volunteership
My skill set includes proficiency in scientific writing, SPSS, and R-programming. In my spare time, I actively volunteer as an Operation Lead for the Real World Evidence Special Interest Group at the Professional Society of Health Economics and Outcome Research (ISPOR) and as a Project Member for Estimands in Real World Evidence/Real World Data for the PHUSE Data Science Community.

What Interested me to Join the Working Group:
The shifting landscape of HTA submissions towards R-programming models, the growing need to incorporate R-programming in Electronic Health Records, and the importance of cost-effective models have motivated me to join this Working Group. As an aspiring professional, I recognize the necessity of understanding the various packages and techniques required to create appropriate HTA submission dossiers and conduct proper clinical outcome assessments.

Through my participation in the R-HTA Working Group, I hope to gain valuable knowledge and contribute to building infrastructure, tools, and potentially authoring a white paper. I am eager to learn from and collaborate with fellow members of the group.

Please feel free to reach out to me at tuhinjamespaul@gmail.com.

I look forward to hearing from others in the Working Group and being part of this exciting endeavor.

Best regards,
Tuhin James Paul

What a great turnout for our kickoff meeting - excited to see where we can take this!

A bit about me: I have background in statistics and have worked 9 years in the pharmaceutical industry late-stage development and, for the last 4 years, HTA statistics. I head up a small team of statisticians and data scientists in Novo Nordisk that work with HTA statistics across the pipeline.

I've used R for more than 22 years. Although I don't do much coding myself anymore (and am not the most active maintainer of my one public R package) I'm very enthusiastic about R and open-source as a platform for bringing people and perspectives together.

I'm also co-chairing the HTA European Special Interest Group in PSI/EFSPI of >100 HTA statisticians across industry, vendors, academia and authorities - I look forward to help bridging between that group and this group!
