Math Warrior
Initially called Math Adventure, Math Warrior is a series of Math RPG made using Scratch, a drag and drop programming environment. Initially, the developer used subtraction for attack and addition for healing in a demo featuring ScratchCat the Gray, a character based on the Scratch mascot, fighting a dragon. In later versions, ScratchCat the Gray would be a nonplayer character [NPC]. In the first version of the game, [https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/44669604/](Quest for Cheezburger), players play a knight who needs to bring a Cheezburger to ScratchCat the Gray.
The next game featured Leonard Euler as the NPC in a game called Euler's Day Off. This game added an axe for multiplication or more specifically subtracting a product. The graphic for the axe was created using the symbols -(*). Similarly, a cure 2 spell was created that use addition of a product. A taunt spell was included, which allows the player to divide the attack power of the enemy. To give the game an e day element, limit break style moves were included. These moves can only be used when the player is low on health.
After making the game, the developer realized that the game introduces math concepts not as more difficult tasks but as new, more powerful weapons that enable the player to fight stronger monsters.
Function monsters were added in the third version of the game. The addition of function monsters introduced an opportunity to include differential calculus. The player learns the derivative from Euler and can use it to weaken the function monsters. In retrospect, including Liebniz and
In order to give the game some kind of closure, an ending based on Schroedinger's Cat was added. A coliseum was also added to encourage players to continue playing to upgrade a relic dagger, which does damage based on powers of two.
Math Adventure 3 is a complete retooling of the game. While the previous games built off the game engine of the previous games, Math Adventure 3 starts mostly from Scratch. Again, the player starts in Castle ScratchCat, but instead of leaving the castle through the front door, the quest leads the player through a closet door. Inspired by the developer's daughter's interest in Frozen and the 2016 election, the player must save Elsa from Donwald Trunk or Anna won't give ScratchCat the Grey any soft noms.
The idea for the game came from an idea for a programming language that uses only three letters for commands that the developer called LAZ COD. To enter commands, the player types t on the keyboard to bring up a terminal. This was inspired by the developer's experience with Linux and Raspberry 3. More emphasis was placed on gear and less on graphics and game play.
