user exmateriae requests:

Some kind of save state for the comments being drafted? Nothing worse than writing a long comment and see it disappear in the ether.

We need:

  • something to indicate the saving that's going on as users write a comment
  • a way to continue from the saved state or start over the next time they come back to the page

Assigning to myself

@aseckin not high priority. This is annoying but not critical.

Just discussed and decided we don't need UI changes for this. Expected behavior:

  • User's comments are saved every x second
  • This applies to both top-level comments and replies, so multiple drafts can exist on a single page
  • Upon attempting to leave the page, user does not see any warning messages, they can just leave
  • When they come back to the same page, the comments box(es) are prefilled with the saved data

Exact frequency the saves happen, and the method (cookies?) is TBD by eng

This is probably covered in "no UI changes", but: no need to provide a way for the user to start their comment from scratch. From our (users') point of view, it is trivial to just select the pre-populated text and delete it.
