3.61 problems in macOS Catalina #92
Comments
If you move the command file from OtherWaysToStartMesquite into Mesquite_Folder, and double click it, what happens?

Hi
version 3.5 was working fine under Catalina; installed version 3.61 and now Mesquite will not even launch. Clicking the icon produces one bounce of the icon and then it stops. Verified the same issue in two different computers. Am I missing something?
thanks

Sounds like Java’s location isn’t recognized. Other users have reported something like this, and it might be an interaction between Catalina and Oracle’s new regime of Java versions and licensing. If you type “java -version” in Terminal what do you see?

Not sure if the screenshot that I uploaded is visible here; but same results.

"No Java runtime present, requesting install" Ok, but I did not change anything in Java or Catalina since updating to the new version of Mesquite. Use TimeMachine to get the previous version of Mesquite I had on my computer and it still works fine. |
Installed Java SE and now Mesquite launches from the command file and then works fine; but the app icon still does not do anything |
OK, this is the second such report. For many people, the icon/executable app still seems to work fine under Catalina. It may be about a particular configuration of installations/updates.
There’s a possibility the issue has to do with a change in security gatekeeping for apps in Catalina, and that your 3.5 works merely because the OS had seen that copy of the executable app before. Could you try opening the icon, and then when it fails, go to System Prefs: Security and Privacy, and see if it’s indicated at the bottom under “Open Anyway”? If so, could you hit Open Anyway? Does that work?
Otherwise, could you try dragging the old 3.5 Mesquite.app into the new Mesquite_Folder and see if it works to start up the new Mesquite? (The executable app is merely a starter; the new Mesquite code is elsewhere in the Mesquite_Folder.)
Thanks for looking into this and reporting it.

Option 1: did not work because I never get to that stage; the icon is simply unresponsive. Option 2: "Otherwise, could you try dragging the old 3.5 Mesquite.app into the new Mesquite_Folder and see if it works to start up the new Mesquite? (The executable app is merely a starter; the new Mesquite code is elsewhere in the Mesquite_Folder.)" worked! |
