This is a pre-release of DEMoCap. More features and bug fixes will be added before the first official release. The pre-release though can be already used for game development purpose.

Changes in 0.5:

  • improved hand model
  • fixed problems with all-bone capture mode and captured root bones being transformed twice
  • modified ECBCapturedAnimation to shows reset pose animator if no animators is present
  • update initial characters
  • modifed auto human and auto fpv motion transfer to use none auto-transform for hand controllers and orientation auto-transform for hand trackers. this makes hand controller matching fully precise and allows to calibrate using hands turned thumb upwards if desired
  • modified index controller tracker offset and assign this offset by default to hand controllers
  • show hand model instead of controller
  • first run did not work causing the initial set of character files not be copied to the config directory
  • added input device test window
  • msix installer for app store

Changes in 0.4:

  • fixed two motion transfer not using CPEBoneList
  • fixed preview editors preventing mouse wheel to scroll panels
  • added help button to open wiki page
  • added teleport movement using ghost target
  • added support to manually move and rotate actor and objects
  • added project to ground actor control parameter.
  • reworked UI organizing panels into 5 categories to better use the screen space. also modified the UI prefix of panels to allow reusing them in hand mounted view being added soon
  • modified recording to include all bones if recording without an active capture character or if the animation to capture is the first. for all other animations only the affected bones are recorded as it has been done up to now
  • added temporary ghost behavior
  • added remoteView world layer bit to make handlers, vrmenu, mirror and camera now showing up in remote views
  • fixed problem with collapsible group widget not forwarding mouse wheel event to parent
  • added remote camera behavior to properly handle remote cameras with the global list model.

  • modified ik motion transfer behavior to update vr hand component position from ik constraint position to place vr controllers where they are more natural to work with for the actor
  • added support to show selected camera behavior in vr hud as overlay

  • added HMD stalling protection. temporarily detaches HMD from parent bone if set in case mocap is not working correctly anymore to avoid the actor not being able to interact with the VR menu because the VR camera does not move anymore
  • added arm reach scaling to AutoFPV
  • updated blend files with rigid body export
  • enlarged the vr mirror
  • fixed restoring calibrated state not working correctly
  • added support to recalibrate. this is an instant calibration used for fine tuning using the VR device positions stored during the last complete calibration
  • added support to disable ECBHideWhileRecording. allows to force mirror and other objects with this behavior to stay visible while recording. this can be used to see what you are acting for better control in certain situations
  • added AutoHumanFPV (first person view)
  • added fine tuning reach scaling to MotionTransferIK
  • added fine tuning reach scaling for left and right arm to MotionTransferAutoHuman
  • added "mirror to opposite slot" which is similar to "mirror from opposite slot" but avoids switching slots to use it
  • ik motion transfer fixing and improving
  • adjusted head hmd/tracker reference position to be located in the middle of the head
  • fixed and improved bend motion transfer. works now for spine and neck handling. for spine a new mode "fit curve to target" is used while neck handling uses simple bending
  • fixed mirror placement problems
  • added spine/neck bend shape fine tuning parameters to auto human motion transfer
  • added bend shape parameter to bend motion transfer
  • added adjust position parameter to child motion transfer
  • fixed wrong transformation calculation in motion transfer tracker
  • fixed ik motion transfer not working with 1 single bone
  • added animation frame smoothing
  • fixed copy bone state motion transfer bone list not being editable
  • improving arm reach handling
  • hide motion capture actor while playing back while not recording to better see the captured animation
  • fixed loading saved animation not working if target capture animation has no animation captured yet
  • modified actor spawner to re-select mocap actor if it has to be recreated and is selected
  • added InteractHandleActorMarker placing an actor marker at the feet of captured characters for convenience
  • modified ECBAttachHandle to support absolute position in addition to relative
  • added actor marker at motion capture actor position. this is the same as the calibration space.
  • added arrow to actor marker model to identify forward direction

  • fixed bug causing certain calibration data in character profiles to duplicate while saving
  • improving spine/head motion transfer for short/long neck characters
  • adding preview move to character profile for tricky models

  • improved arm reach handling to prevent arms from changing stretching between forward and sidewards position

Changes in 0.2:

  • Added support for creating capture projects. Projects are *.demcp files with data stored in a project specific directory next to them.
  • Added support to add and edit Scene Objects
  • Added support to add Capture Characters. This allows to define precisely where characters are located in a game sequence to capture animations at the exact right spot without needing to fix up later on.
  • Added support to capture multiple animations per character. Allows to capture multiple arm pairs or other kinds of additional limbs all fitting together
  • DEMoCap now starts out with VR disabled. Setup your motion capture session from the PC monitor and once ready enable VR to do the actual capturing.
  • Added support for Head-Tracker setup in addition to Head-HMD setup. DEMoCap figures out automatically which mode to use while calibrating depending if the head-tracker is present or not.
