Active vs Passive description difficult to understand

I found the Active vs Passive description difficult to understand.
Firstly, I should point out that while I'm a native English speaker, and naturally understand the English language structure, I have very little understanding of English grammar terminology (such as Active vs Passive voice).
Consequently, I spent a lot of cognitive load trying to learn these terms rather than getting the key messages of selecting sentence structure.
I would have understood immediately if examples were used.
While my understanding of English grammar is lacking, I find that it is better than many of my fellow Australian software engineers that I work with. So I suggest that we should lower our expectations of understanding of our reader's grammar skills, probably by putting a greater emphasis on examples.
