what next in Qt-DAB #231

eti inputWell, in the past you have had a simple eti-frontend and eti-backend. For example this commit https://github.com/JvanKatwijk/eti-stuff/tree/3042ebe31459173262f296993729d0c3481491e4 I remember that it was working quite well and you might reuse your code to allow Qt-DAB to load an eti file directly. Dutch translationI guess there are a lot of fans using your software speaking Dutch ... You are the best translator ... For German I'll check if all texts are being translated... |

Hi Andreas
You mean revive the eti backend with qt-dab code?
Integrating an eti backend with the Qt-DAB GUI is pretty hard, recreating
the eti-backend with the Qt-DAB code can be
considered.

Another idea: A timer for recording frames dump. |
Beta Was this translation helpful? Give feedback.

just to be more specific:
for the currently selected service at time X the dump starts and at time Y
the dump stops,
where X and Y are specified times?
or
while Qt-DAB is running, select at time X service S and start dumping
immediately until time Y when the dump stops and Qt-DAB remains
decoding service S
or
at time X start Qt-DAB, select service S, start dumping immediately until
time Y, after which Qt-DAB will halt
Of course the third option is easier to implement using a dab-cmdline
version of the program.

I just had a quick look
The third option above is easy to implement, first adding a flag to
example-5 causing the output to be written to a file
rather than stdout (i.e. specifiying a filename in the command line), then
using an "at" command with the specified time)
and adding some timer to be able to specify the duration of the recording

What about a web-frontend. Run the server on RPI, go there with the browser, select the station and play! |

If the GUI is sufficiently simple it is worthwhile to look into.
It is then assumed that the server continues to run whenever the connection
is lost
Whenever a connection is established, the GUI will show the current state
The GUI is minimal and has a selector for selecting a channel,
if a list of services is shown (i.e. an ensemble is recognized), selecting
a service is possible
The dynamic label text is shown continuously if the browser is connected
Assuming that the server has a soundcard and a speakerset, something for
setting the gain is desirable
Something has to be possible for setting the gain of the SDR device
attached to the server
Few years ago I had something like this with a bluetooth interface, but the
control on a phone/tablet
was not well designed.
I'll give it a thoiught (but my HTML/javascript experience is virtually
zero)

Sort of the DAB version of openwebrx.

This is what it said in my mail to you: answering your question (oct 27)

… I meant sending the audio to the webbrowser, but using a webbrowser as
remote control for the sound of the server could also be useful. The
bandwidth rtl_tcp uses on the network is quite a challenge for average
wifi, AAC compressed audio is a breeze for that. Most html5 browsers will
happily decode and play AAC.

Hi Jan
I am struggling with Xming, as the free old version from 2017 won't run on
my Windows 11...
Would it be possible to have a .exe setup file rather than a .AppImage file
for Windows 11 please?
Best regards

This is a great software. Works very good with my RSP1A. Are the MOT pictures in the audio stream or in a separate data stream? Could info about them be included in the GUI? Thanks! |

Dear Dick
MOT pictures - station labels as shown - are encoded in the audio stream
The FIC stream is continuously transmitted, can you be more specific?
Saving the blocks would be easy, but it all depends what you want to do
with it
The result of the scan shows most aspects of the current ensemble

FIC data is transmitted in blocks 2..4 of the DABframe, 4 FIC bloks spread
over 3 DAB blocks,
after processing there are per FIC 768 bits, Bits are processed per 256.
So, the next question is then: are you interested in the "raw" data, i.e.
the 3 DAB blocks, the 4 FIC blocks or the 256 bit sized FIB blocks
These latter blocks are - in Qt-DAB passed on to the fib decoder
Btw, did you ever had a look at the ETI format,

… The main reason that I want the FIC data is that I am curious on the inner
workings of DAB. Many years ago I wrote a decoder for fic (binary data
saved with checksum, so 32B per message) My decoder can be found on
www.telder.com/fic but there are other decoders with much better hmi. The
same file format is used by Andreas Gsinn DAB Player, but the hardware used
for that software does not have the sensitivity that allows me to receive
any DAB ensembles where I live.
A possibility to save MOT objects and even the MSC streams for data
services would be a great way to learn more about what is transmitted but
not intended for our ears.
Thanks!

It obviously all depends what you want to see in the FIC.
Of course there is the - more or less - static binding of services ->
subchannels, that can be seen in e.g. the result of the scanner and
probably lots of other software.
One of the static things that always interests me is to see whether or not
there are subchannels, not (directly) bound to a service
More interesting parts are of course things as "signals", i.e. the change
in configuration and the alarms
So if you can specify in more detail what you are looking for, we can see
ehat can be done

Dear Dick, maybe you have a look into
https://github.com/AlbrechtL/welle.io#examples
Welle-cli can extract the fic stream, even on its webinterface ( http://[ip]:[port]/fic
)
Thanks for your great analyzing tool, I've uploaded several files already
in the past :-)

OK
Ijf you run Linux and can build/compile something I'll make a command line
version based on the dab-cmdline programs
If not, I'll build a qt-dab version with an additional button
One question: do you need the separate 256 bit block sparated by a marker
or so in a file?

once had a receiver that failed to play a low bitrate mono service.
Reconfigurations where current service disappears. How is that handled?
Reconfigurations and linking DAB-DAB while driving is of interest (want to
make a testcase to prove successful linking between services with different
SIDs, which is not so easy to find by chance).
Announcements are also of interest. Here could Qt-DAB be very helpful and
show a log of when/what happened in FIG 0/19, 0/25, 026 (as examples). But
that feature would probably excite very few people, but I would love it. :)
What I most look for is a possibility to export the FIC-stream. I hope
that would be fairly simple to implement,
Thanks,
/Dick

more questions
a. do you want the 256 bit blocks separated by e.g. a marker and the fib
number (0 .. 11);
b. do you want the 256 bit blocks one bit per byte or packed
Whatever you choose, it will only take a few lines of code

I am assuming you are running Linux,
the attached link is to a preliminary version which contains - in a special
way - the requested feature
Rather than changing the GUI I added a "ficDump" command to the list of
schedulable operations.
If the operation is scheduled it will dump the FIC bits, byte aligned, into
a file with a name composed
from the channel name, the date and the extension ".fic"
Note:
a. the dump will be written to a file, with the aforementioned name
cconstruction in the "savedir" environment, usually the home directory
b. dumping is stopped by (a) a next occurrence of the "ficDump" command in
the schedule list, but also by changing the channel.
Since it is a rather special option, with probably a single user, it seemed
for the time being best not to change the GUI
(bit allow the functionality to be used indirectly)
Since it is a minor change to the sources, it will remain in the
sourcetree. As soon as 4.35 is suffixciently stable
the 4.35 sources will be on githib

… The format I want is just 32 bytes for each FIB. I uploaded an example
here: www.telder.com/bilder/11B_DRS_BW_2014-10-27_211104.zip
No need to make sure the file starts with the first byte of a FIB. The
file needs to be byte-aligned, but not 32 byte-aligned..
I would of course prefer to use the GUI. No need to hurry, I am happy if
it can be integrated in a future release.
Thanks!

I shift the bits right in, see the code fragment, each segment of 256 bits
is translated to 32 bytes, segments of 256 bytes are written out
for (int j = 0; j < 32; j ++) {
int bufferP = ficPointer + j;
ficBuffer [bufferP] = 0;
for (int k = 0; k < 8; k ++) {
ficBuffer [bufferP] <<= 1;
ficBuffer [bufferP] |= p [8 * j + k];
}
}
ficPointer += 32;
if (ficPointer >= 256) {
ficLocker. lock ();
if (ficDumpPointer != nullptr)
fwrite (ficBuffer, 1, 256, ficDumpPointer);
ficLocker. unlock ();
ficPointer = 0;
}

… Thanks! I got Qt-DAB working on Linux Mint. I had to manually remove 20dB
attenuation the first time I started the program, after that the reception
worked.
To start the recording using the scheduler is fine. The fic-stream seems
to be in another format than my script expected. I cannot yet say what
differs, I need to look into the standards to be able to say more.
