Sharing common variables throughout components

Opened based on the conversation on this PR. Because many variables (eg spacing) are shared between components, we may want to move them into the theme or otherwise identify the best way to share the between components, as well as potentially provide ways for consumers of the library to easily override the ones they want to change.
