I believe right now that's an invisible failure, output binaries are produced even if they cause issues and don't work.

I'm encountering a similar issue when using Keyboard Layout Editor. It seems like the legends are being used to provide matrix information, but I'm still fairly new to the world of keyboard firmware and Vial, so I might be missing something.

yes, you're correct. vial need to know the key - matrix position mapping
