May I ask what the reasoning behind naming the default playlist Favorites? That would've made sense with the Star button/icon, but with the icon changed to a clock, it would be better suited as Watch Later instead (mimicking what Youtube has.) Though there is merit to both; personally I'd keep Watch Later as a separate tab, with the clock icon adding videos to Watch Later from subscription feed, and for favorites there could be the star button on the video watch page itself, in place of the Youtube Like, to add videos to a separate Favorites playlist. |

I have no idea why @trostboot considered the XKCD comic (meme) to be an appropriate comparison- in third person, how very mature- to a genuine accessibility issue. I was half-thinking it was going to lead into a 'CD-Rom drink cup tray' comment but this went right into pure absurdity; a 'space bar warmer'? And being ungrateful? I was grateful if anything to find that Freetube allowed me to use grouped favourites in a way I could manage. This isn't convenience or luxury for me but being able to control my computer without pushing my physical or psychological tolerances beyond what I could meet. |

@daiyam That's fair, and I understand that my post likely came across as a complaint, and I recognize that whether or not it was intended thus. I regret deeply that my words met you @absidue or any of the devs that way; I can't imagine that was any kindness on my part. For my part, I came in to speak to you for the first time but felt like I got a crack across the jaw for gathering the nerve to speak up, was spoken for inappropriately, then taken a passive-aggressive shot at twice for voicing my concerns in an appropriate forum. I did no name-calling (one being the rather insulting XKCD comparison on @trostboot's part to a genuine feature issue I had, whose history as a feature element of Freetube and ongoing destiny I was not aware of) and I was not trying to wrest any control or apply any direction but hopefully find a solution that was not unreasonable to ask of you, not demand but ask. I see no other way I could've said anything, or done something productive other than not to have said anything and stewed. I have a lot of trust issues I will never fully resolve- I know none of you would be likely to know that nor could you have known; I bear no belief that question would be asked of another person under any casual or nonspecific circumstance- and the ongoing, more immediate if impermanent physical disability I have is compounding my ability to tolerate stress and be patient with handling situations involving trust, and emotional/psychological association. I'm going to keep using Freetube as a resource and tool on my computer as best I can because I want to know it's an application that will help me, and not keep that association locked in place. Again, I am sorry for my intrusion, because whether or not I had meant it as such the context suggests that's what my query became in receipt. |

Yes, that is a known issue, I managed to speed it up a bit, but it probably won't be solved until we find a way to introduce virtual scrolling (most frameworks seem to require all elements to have a known height or the same height, but everything in FreeTube is dynamically sized) or migrate to Vue 3, which requires a major refactor. For the moment I recommend using smaller playlists. We could have added a limit to the number of videos that are allowed in a playlist as a workaround, but users would have just asked us to remove the limit, it's rather more effective having users discover themselves that large playlists currently result in a bad user experience and decide themselves to use smaller ones :). |

@cocoonkid Thanks for sharing your scripts, could you be more specific about them; Are they python or js? Do I copy paste into a .py file and run it in the same folder as the database file? Does it require a minimum version of the code language? |

you have to have node installed and npm install nedb put them in a .js file and run them with "node filename.js" adjust the filenames as well to fit yours. |

Appreciate the work, but that's a hard no from me dawg. Upgrading to 20.0 was a waste of time without the playlist grid feature already implemented. Also the star icon being removed is a UI downgrade as far as I'm concerned. The green checkmark thing is waaaaaay harder to see at a glance. |

I used to install this app on older computers with win7 and I personally still use win 8.1 a lot. The decision of dropping support for older systems made me sad, but I understand the wind of changes. |

We already use APIs that aren't available in older versions of Electron and that will only keep increasing the more time progresses, you just haven't found one of them (e.g. turning on the experimental replace http cache setting, won't work). We are small team and as none of the developers have access to unmaintained Windows versions, we don't have the ability or the time to test everything single change and make sure it is backwards compatible with unmaintained versions of Electron. We already have more than enough to do maintaining the normal version of FreeTube. Your only hope is if someone in the community wants to maintain a fork of FreeTube and has the time and motivation to backport stuff to unmaintained Electron versions. We won't be doing anything like that for the reasons mentioned above. |

Just tested, FreeTube v0.20.0 works in Supermium-Electron on Windows 7 using the resource folder from This is of course a very much unofficial and unsupported configuration, so don't expect any official support for it, but it does appear to work, at least for now. |

you should add a compatibility check into the setup to prevent installations on unsupported systems. i installed the update on win7 and got confronted with a discardvirtualmemory error. like any other user out there, i didnt read the release notes. |

Hello, congrats on the new release and huge appreciation for everything you do in general. I love the app! Having a dedicated shortcut to Favorites in the main sidebar would fix this, as well as the ability in Settings to sort it by newest first. Edit: Found the earlier version so I could roll back, but I would really love if these tweaks could be implemented in the future |

We are aware of the improvements we can do for FT and if you attemped a search on our issue tracker you can see that for yourself. This is just the initial release for the Playlists feature after almost a year of development. More improvements will come.

I've just check on Chrome (still no hardware decoder) but the usage is about 30% while with FreeTube it's 100%... (the previous version was more about 60-70%) |

I don´t know if you are aware of this, but the new playlists seem not to be able to "remember" the last point in the video I watched, like with the old playlist just FOR CERTAIN VIDEOS. That is a huge pain, since I had lots of multi hour long videos I watched and stopped in the middle because I knew I could just keep on watching later on. It seems to be "kept in mind" aslong as you don´t reboot your PC. Most are still kept at that last point, but others just reset back to "Start", when you reboot your PC. Sorry I can´t describe it better. :( |

Hi @thepusher90 we tried to reproduce this internally but failed to do so. We restarted/rebooted or system multiple times and the playlist progress was never deleted. |

Great job !!! Would it be possible to remove duplicate playlist entries? At the moment, nothing prevents me from inserting one YouTube link into one playlist repeatedly and it always creates a new entry in the playlist. |

Being able to add it multiple times is unfortunately not a bug, it's very much intentional (there is a bunch of code to make that possible), as apparently some users prefer it that way. |

@absidue I beg your pardon, I have been an ongoing Freetube user for a
year, perhaps 18 months but I feel sure it's not been longer; it has not
been a priority of mine in my condition to recall the precise date, and I
do not appreciate and I rather resent your presumption of my veterancy of
use whether or not I provided the data regarding how long I've made regular
use of Freetube and the tone you're evidently taking towards me and my care
in understanding Freetube's design history and the changelog you've shared
in the past, in your choice of words because of that wholly incorrect
assumption on my behalf.
I was very happy to see that the Watch Now panel's UI and behavior had
until the most recent Freetube revision and update been something I could
handle operating easily- often with one hand, but usually involving
unpredictable lapses of concentration- and I appreciate that by your
progression of the program's planned design that it was a temporary measure
before implementing what you've said is the Youtube UI standard for
playlists and Favourites, but I feel that this is a major hamper to my
using the program from now on. I am not an engineer or coder by trade or
training but my significant other is and has explained to me why the severe
laggyness occurs in playlists beyond a set length. For me this is a
client-end issue, and I agree that it's worth caring for in the UI's
design; I can only impress that for me it's a risk assessment that leans
towards a laggy playlist or library compared to clicking 'More Videos' over
and over again each and every time I open a playlist (or now, the
Playlists/Favourites panel and default playlist therein) and becoming more
and more frustrated, as it must be done each time I open a playlist.
I won't bring this up again, as I don't wish to be of any further
disruption to you and your ongoing work and I genuinely do not have the
energy to argue about it further.

That is factually incorrect, the old implemenation paginated at 100 items
too source code for the starting limit of 100

Removing the pagination is not possible unless you want FreeTube to freeze
for multiple seconds every time you open a playlist (about 1 second for
every 1000 items in the playlist) and become a laggy mess when you scroll (
#4578 <#4578>).

It doesn't really matter how long you have been using FreeTube, it doesn't change the fact that there was notice that the change was happening, right inside the app all along, I'm sorry that you missed it. I get that you are frustrated, but taking out that frustration on developers is going to have the opposite effect of what you want, it will make them less willing to help you, as it comes across as complaints and not a plea to make the app more accessible. If your original message had contained actionable feedback instead of just verbalised frustration, we wouldn't be in this situation and might even have been able to come up with something actionable as a result. As you mentioned that the number of clicks are an issue for you, here are some things that you might be interested in:
The search functionality is already available in 0.20.0, the others are confirmed to be in the next release (the code has already been written). |

And this was merged recently, it will autoload more once you reach the bottom instead of having the show more button (you'll have to enable it in settings and isnt available in the current release but you can use it in a nightly build if you feel like testing new features or wait until the next release) |

Just woke up about 20 minutes ago, and spent some time briefly with my gentlemate Engineer who was up before she went to bed. I believe I found the repository for the Nightly builds, with https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube/actions/runs/8753729711 being the most recent one. I believe I have somewhere to start. I really appreciate you all being patient with me, good chummers. I must impress as clearly and plainly to you all as I can: I am ill and
recovering from a long period of phyiscal illness, partly resulting from
compounded and extreme stress, and I am not a programmer, hardware or
software technician or engineer by trade or training. I think I get the
general idea of what you've described but a lot of the mechanics and terms
are going right over my head and they would be even if I was at a normal
level of function. I appreciate your patience with me but the
back-and-forth today has worn me out; I can't focus all that well.
If there is a nightly available for potential sampling on my part, may I
ask where I can obtain it, or when it might be available for download? I'll
try to respond in a few hours if I can; I need to sleep for a bit. I
appreciate your patience with me, and I'd very much enjoy trying out the
optional Playlist Grid toggle and the autotriggered 'More Videos' playlist
feature when enabled, it if has or is to become part of a nighty build,
which I presume would be its initial, testbed modum of inclusion in
Freetube.

Hey, I love Freetube and I appreciate everything you do. I noticed something - before 0.20 update if I searched in a playlist I could find a video by title, but also if I put a channel name I could find all the videos from a certain channel that I added to the playlist which I personally found very useful. Did you change that intentionally or was the option cut due to some unrelated changes? |

Ending Support for Windows 7/8/8.1 and macOS 10.13 / 10.14
In order to stay in line with recent updates to Electron, this update drops support for all Windows operating systems below Windows 10 as well as macOS 10.13 / 10.14. These operating systems have been considered end of life for quite a while now and should also be considered a security risk. It is highly recommended that you switch to an alternative operating system if you are still using any of the ones mentioned above.
User Playlists
A long awaited feature is finally here! You can now create and manage your own playlists within FreeTube. Anything currently within your "Saved Videos" will be converted into a Favorites playlist. New videos can be added to this playlist as before however you'll also have the ability to add the video to multiple playlists at a time. Extra features like rearranging videos within a playlist as well as playlist cloning are also included.
