V1.1.1
This release contains a few new features, many small enhancements and a lot of fixes for both the viewer and builder.
Cascade is production ready but we still call it beta in ArcGIS as it's only localized in English and we have a few more exiting features coming. This release include a breaking change to Sequential sections that can affect bookmarks pointing to Sequential section in a specific context, a workaround is available.
Major new features:
- Cascade stories now appear in My Stories list and can be scanned for errors
- Configure the layout of background images: you can now control how your images appear on all screen sizes by selecting a focus point. This guarantee that this point and the surrounding area will always be visible to your readers. We have also added an option for the image to fit, this is useful for infographics or chart that cannot be cropped. When choosing that option, the app suggest you a filling color and you can specify your own
- Use color to format narrative text and captions
- Use a theme for your title elements: choose between light or dark text and shadow or background
- Add free stock images from Unsplash to your story
- Upload multiple images to ArcGIS at once
- Autoplay mode. Autoplay mode is useful if you want to show a story map on a display monitor such as a kiosk in a visitor center, an exhibit, or in an operations center. In autoplay mode the story advances automatically creating a visually interesting and changing display
Enhancements:
- Overall improvements to the experience of creating a story
- Adding and removing sections is much easier and more consistent. For example, when you insert a Title or Immersive section in the middle of a Sequential section the narrative now splits at the insertion point
- Improved the look and feel of the text and paragraph spacings and replaced the story font (switched to Droid)
- Visual tweaks and improvements: Media Picker and notification panels look cleaner; colors, icons, and button styles have been standardized; there’s a more deliberate look to map configuration and organize modes; and a lot more
- Display an error message when a media cannot be loaded instead of keeping the media space empty
- Improved text editor performance
Bug fixes viewer:
- Image uploaded to ArcGIS does not load if you have access to a story that is not public but you are not the owner of the story
- Web scene layer shared with organization or groups does not load
- Style of pop-up in Immersive section is not applied properly resulting in some pop-up not being readable
- First view of an Immersive section does not always show the proper background media when the section is visited for the second time (happen mostly when using bookmarks)
- First map of an Immersive section navigate to an invalid location when it's the first view of the section and the story is navigated backward
- Immersive media that are transparent may reveal the media of the following view. All media now have a white supporting background to avoid this, this is especially useful for maps
- When map has interaction is disabled, it's not possible to interact with a popup that has been configured to be open by default
- Story break with if an error happen when loading a video from Vimeo in an Immersive section
- Map capture arrows up/down and page up/down when the map has the focus
- Explore map button is positioned too high on mobile device
- When using non public story or builder if no oAuth app id is configured no error message is displayed
Bug fixes builder:
- Builder doesn't load when an Immersive panel start with a media block
- Media picker, this story does not display all the content of the story
- Media picker does not allow to upload Images on story that you are authorized to edit but are not the owner
- Map "Location reset" button only works for web map using Web Mercator projection

- Immersive views transition not always reflected properly in the panel
- Title section configuration panel appear over the section
- Removed some Cover placeholder images whose colors where not ideal for the default title theme
- Changing the transition of an Immersive view that is not currently active may display the wrong media
